“The world is not respectable; it is mortal, tormented, confused,

deluded forever; but it is shot through with beauty, with love,

with glints of courage and laughter; and in these, the spirit

blooms timidly, and struggles to the light amid the thorns.”

Santayana

DIRECT AID TO CHILE

Obviously we have been affected greatly by the devastation in Chile and are in the process of creating fundraiser performances for our chileno/a brother and sister artists. For now, a percentage of the proceeds from Quijerema’s performance will go directly to “Café Viejo” - a Chilean artist’s collective located in the central coast of the country. The people at “Café Viejo” are close friends of ours and some of the best artists, painters, musicians and artisans in the country. Their building has been partly destroyed and we would like to assist as best we can to facilitate their recovery. We may not be able to raise 30 billion, but we certainly can help rebuild part of an integral artist community. As artists, we feel that this is our responsibility. We are still getting reports that the food, water and meds are still in short supply or are not getting to the people. If you or anyone you know would like to support aid to Chile and are looking for a direct, non bureaucratic or red taped manner, please consider attending this performance. 50% of CD sales will go directly to this effort as well. Your donations will be immediately turned to supplies, food, water and medication for those affected by the earthquake. It will allow Chileans to help Chileans rather than waiting for the international aid.
